Now
What is Now?
Now is a snapshot of where I’m investing my time—used as a knowledge portfolio. I track my focus areas in small, regular, and diversified slices (as in The Pragmatic Programmer), and show them as a log/table, a pie view, and links to related Articles. I hope you find my current output useful.
Now Working On
Financial Literacy
Financial literacy, to me, is an investment in the long arc of my life. Money will likely outlast me; that’s why I want to spend a lifetime honing my knowledge and sensibilities. Right now I learn mainly through books and by managing index funds. My aim is to sharpen my values around money. I study the structure of finance through books and turn it into lived skill through everyday practice and small, low-risk experiments. Along the way I make use of code, expect to encounter great books, and gather plenty of insights. From the knowledge and wisdom I gain, I share what proves genuinely valuable.
Learning English
I'm learning English as a habit. My output is modest, consisting of updating this website in English and speaking to tourists and my young son in English (who often laughs for some reason). My goals are to satisfy my curiosity about language learning itself and to enjoy English-speaking films and books in the original language. At the moment, I have no plans to take exams or work overseas. In Japan, English learning tends to be heavily focused on exams, but I feel like an atmosphere of "learning for fun" is finally spreading. I'll share short summaries of any realizations I find truly enjoyable while learning.
Offensive Web Security
As a web engineer who genuinely loves the web, I find cybercrime painful to watch. It’s disappointing when good technology is used for harmful purposes, and I feel that these threats are becoming more personal as IT weaves deeper into everyday life. To protect myself and the people and systems I care about, I’m learning to see from an attacker’s point of view and to practice offensive web security in controlled, legal environments. I break vulnerable applications to understand exactly how they fail, then turn that understanding into concrete defenses, tools, and checklists that developers can actually use. Over time, I hope to quietly raise the security baseline of every product I touch.
